Gently does itA more gentle read from Tess but together with Gary they have produced a good story that you cannot put down。 Enjoyable from start to finish。

One of the best Prime First Read books I've read; this was a well-paced thriller that was hard to put down。 I did figure out the mystery, but the story kept me second-guessing myself till the end。 One of the best Prime First Read books I've read; this was a well-paced thriller that was hard to put down。 I did figure out the mystery, but the story kept me second-guessing myself till the end。 。。。more

Good bookExcellent book, interesting insights on tragic love affairs in art and literature skilfully combined with present day murder mystery investigation。
Wade Higgins,
Good story well written。。。butAn intriguing tale skillfully written but in the end is basically another “ men bad women good” tome。 All the male characters are dastardly and flawed and all female characters are saints whose lives are ruined by those dastardly men。 Even the deranged victim who had it all if not for those dastardly men。 Some will like it。

Unusual usualI know - huh??? The "usual" is the basics of the story, an oft repeated scenario in many books。 But the authors treat this scenario differently, through the reveal of the characters。 Sympathies, or lack thereof, changed for me as the story developed。 My thoughts of the characters are still unsettled, even though I've finished the book。 Unusual usualI know - huh??? Couldn’t put it down!I READ THIS BOOK IN 2 DAYS! A well woven story with several trails to inspect as I tried to decipher the entire tapestry。 Truly an enjoyable read。 But I hurt for several of the characters。 They were pitiable。 I love the way historic literature was in every fiber of the storyline。 I had to look up a couple to remind myself just what did happen in some of the Ancient Greek tragedies。

Brilliant edge of your seat thrillerChoose Me held my interest from start to finish。 The characters are realistically drawn and the story well plotted with lots of logical and satisfying twists。 The main story mirrors the themes in the class the professor is teaching, a clever device that lends coherence to the plot

I liked the other books by Tess Gerritsen I have read, but not this one。 I don't know why I bothered finishing it。 Obsessive, annoying, unlikable characters。 I liked the other books by Tess Gerritsen I have read, but not this one。 I don't know why I bothered finishing it。 Obsessive, annoying, unlikable characters。 。。。more
Mark,
Enjoyed this, much better than the usual fare available for free from Amazon First Reads。 Dual authorship is an interesting concept and I guess that Tess wrote the chapters from the female perspectives of the student and the detective while Gary wrote the chapters told from the perspective of the male lecturer。 Whatever the arrangement, it worked well。
Stacey Groves,
Enjoyable readI've read a few books by Gerritsen so when I saw this on prime reads it was an easy choice。 I enjoyed the plot and the characters, the way the story moved between before and after, the switching between characters point of view and the twist at the end。 Enjoyable readI've read a few books by Gerritsen so when I saw this on prime reads it was an easy choice。 I enjoyed the plot and the characters, the way the story moved between before and after, the switching between characters point of view and the twist at the end。 。。。more

This book was hard to put down! Ended up being a weekend read。 Thanks, Joann, for getting me started on Tess Gerritsen!
Nita,
Read it in 2 sittings!Well written and author(s) did a good job of fleshing out the characters。 I enjoyed seeing all the views of each of the characters, from their individual perspectives。 Although I guessed rather quickly “who done it” the story unfolded in an interesting and riveting way。 We at first are led to feel sorry for the victim, but seeing her true nature revealed was thought provoking。 Also enjoyed the literature references and analysis。 A good read overall!
Julie,
A little different in style but still a good read。

I picked 'Choose Me' as one of my Amazon Prime First Reads。 I'm very familiar with the name Tess Gerritson, but I hadn't actually read her before。 On the strength of this, I'd probably read her again, but she and her co-author didn't exactly rock my world with this book。 It's a quick read, I fell for all the misdirection on who the likely killer was, enjoyed the sub-plot about ancient vengeful wronged women, and I'd grade this book as totally competent but not entirely memorable。 I liked the mid I picked 'Choose Me' as one of my Amazon Prime First Reads。 I'm very familiar with the name Tess Gerritson, but I hadn't actually read her before。 On the strength of this, I'd probably read her again, but she and her co-author didn't exactly rock my world with this book。 It's a quick read, I fell for all the misdirection on who the likely killer was, enjoyed the sub-plot about ancient vengeful wronged women, and I'd grade this book as totally competent but not entirely memorable。 I liked the middle-aged, overweight, widowed police officer and her backstory and would be happy to read more books with her as a protagonist。This is a tale where women take the lead。 The suicide-but-maybe-not victim is young, intelligent and beautiful but seriously screwed up romantically。 I had my bet on her sarcastic and privileged classmate for a while but she just slipped off the radar screen。 The other 'wronged' woman also delivered some surprises, but the police woman was the most likeable of the bunch。 Not overly complex or too intellectually challenging, but after reading a few books recently that REALLY dragged, I was happy to gallop through this one。 。。。more

Okay, this contains some spoilers。 So, I thought this book was really well written and interesting。。。Buuuut spoiler, I have a really huge problem about how the girl who was extremely unhinged, who was a literal stalker got portrayed in such a positive light by the detective。 I do not condone inappropriate relationships with professors and students even if they're both adults, but like if you read this book and you take away the professor/student dynamic, and had their genders swapped, it kind of Okay, this contains some spoilers。 So, I thought this book was really well written and interesting。。。Buuuut spoiler, I have a really huge problem about how the girl who was extremely unhinged, who was a literal stalker got portrayed in such a positive light by the detective。 I do not condone inappropriate relationships with professors and students even if they're both adults, but like if you read this book and you take away the professor/student dynamic, and had their genders swapped, it kind of felt like sexual manipulation? I was so disappointed in this book。 I thought as it was Tess Gerritsen it would be like her others which I’ve enjoyed in the past。 Unfortunately although it started off well I didn’t like the way the characters behaved I it。 Also, at times, I found it confusing。 It’s such a shame but, im hopeful that her next book will be back to her previous novels。

Lisa,
Tess Gerritsen is one of my all-time favorite authors, and no one delivers smart, layered, expertly crafted thrillers quite like hers。 In CHOOSE ME, teamed up with stellar thriller writer Gary Braver, Gerritsen is at the very top of her game。 Don’t miss this edgy, twisting, rocket-paced story of marriage, betrayal, and the damage we do to each other in the name of love。

Deanna Schwartz,
The book was well written and compelling, but I couldn’t get over some of the offensive aspects。 The book was fatphobic, problematic, and disturbing considering it was written by a college English professor。 There were multiple tirades against “political correctness” and trigger warnings。 After reading this book, I will make sure to not take a class with this professor。
